DMK EFA Plus at SPA Melissa Allen

Even More About EFAs

By now, you’re probably on-board with how important EFAs or Essential Fatty Acids are to our bodies, especially our skin. (If you’re not, go back and read more here.

However, we wanted to take some time and specifically focus on supplements for EFAs. Since the body does not create EFAs naturally, they have to come from outside sources. While supplements do not replace a balanced diet or proper nutrition, it can be challenging to get adequate EFAs, especially for vegetarians. Supplementing is an ideal way to ensure that you are getting the EFAs you need, no matter your diet.

Choosing a supplement can be overwhelming. There are hundreds of options on the shelves at any drug store. It’s important to remember that supplements from a store are not always your best choice. They are not strictly regulated by the FDA, and they are not held to high standards for accuracy in their ingredient list. They can be full of fillers and low-quality ingredients.

The supplement blend that we recommend for Essential Fatty Acids is DMK’s efa+. Here’s why we chose to offer this supplement.

Unlike drugstore brands, DMK supplements are created in the USA with an FDA registered lab. They only use pure, raw materials – no fillers or inferior quality ingredients. The method they use to pull out the chemical elements is known as carbon dioxide extraction. This is more expensive but does not damage or alter the ingredients like other processes.

DMK efa+ contains two primary ingredients: Evening Primrose Oil and Sea Buckthorn. Evening Primrose Oil has been used in traditional medicine for centuries, including by indigenous Americans. It contains Omega-6 EFAs, naturally sourced vitamin E, plus prostaglandins that can help regulate hormones. It’s sourced in New Zealand. It increases water levels in the skin, almost like an internal moisturizer! A 2005 study found that Evening Primrose Oil taken orally helps to smooth skin and improve its elasticity, moisture, firmness, and fatigue resistance.

The sea Buckthorn in efa+ grows in Mongolia, and it is bursting with anti-inflammatory ingredients. It’s one of only a few known plant sources of Omega-7 and nourishes skin and hair (and the rest of the body.) There are several studies currently researching Sea Buckthorn’s benefits, especially its antioxidant properties. Some studies have found that it improves eczema.

DMK’s efa+ is an ideal supplement for people who want to repair and improve their skin. It can help with acne, inflamed or sensitive skin, pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, and signs of aging.

While EFA supplements are generally considered safe, we recommend talking to your doctor to make sure it’s a good fit for you.
