Just how closely tied are the endocrine system and your skin?
.
Part of the endocrine system, your skin, its sebaceous glands, and sweat glands are made up of cells that contain hormone receptors.
.
Even though they are primarily created in the ovaries (for women), the hormone receptors in your endocrine system can signal your body to create sex hormones estrogen, progesterone, and androgen—even after a hysterectomy or menopause.
.
When these hormones are created as a result of a signal from your skin (vs. in your ovaries), skin conditions like acne, breakouts, pigmentation, and signs of aging can look different and thus, require a different approach to treatment and revision.
.
We’ve shared previously how your diet, stress levels, and other health conditions can affect your skin; your hormones can have an impact on your skin, as well.
.
If you need help revising hormonal acne, pigmentation, or another skin condition, book an appointment with us online at SpaMelissaAllen.com.
