Chemical Peel

Should I Get a Chemical Peel?

Peeling is an essential part of healing our skin. The body naturally sloughs off our skin as part of its natural rhythm.

Chemical peels are simply peels that are induced by a chemical solution. The solution causes the old skin cells to die off, peeling to reveal healthy, new skin underneath. They are great when working towards revising a multitude of skin conditions such as signs of aging, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, and acne and breakouts. Where you are at in your skin revision journey will determine the type of peel you might receive.

Our chemical peels not only give advanced exfoliation, but also increase cell renewal and hydration, while stimulating the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. In the weeks to come, you’ll get a more even skin tone with younger, brighter-looking skin.

But we have to prepare the skin for a peel. Some esthetician’s perform back-to-back chemical peels, and some of our potential guests expect that. However, we want to emphasize the DMK concept of “Remove, Rebuild, Protect, And Maintain.” Chemical peels are part of that “remove” motto. But for long-term results, we need to make sure that we are rebuilding, protecting, and maintaining the skin long before and long after a peel, too.

We won’t perform a chemical peel on a client the first time they see us at our spa. We strongly believe that the skin needs to be made ready for a peel and that a peel is only one tool in the toolbox that will help you reach your skin goals. With the DMK concept in mind, here’s who should NOT get a chemical peel:

* Anyone taking acne medication, like isotretinoin or Accutane. You should wait at least six months before seeing anyone for any skin treatments (not just peels).
* Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding
* Anyone with an active cold sore or other infection
* Anyone who tans or has an irregular amount of sun exposure
* Anyone who has not been prepared with the appropriate retinol

In our spa, we only perform chemical peels on regular clients who are compliant with their prescribed home care. It’s essential that we take every precaution when doing chemical peels since they can cause damage to the skin if not done correctly.
